Palembang coffee business opportunity is promising. Palembang (ANTARA News) - Business opportunities of coffee beans or coffee shops in the city of Palembang, South Sumatra, are quite promising because the education about coffee on the people is increasing.  The coffee business in the city is currently relatively thriving, so sales turnover of coffee beans including the number of visitors to coffee shops has increased 20 to 30 percent each month, said Fadel (24), the owner of `Kedai Kopi Baik` when met at the Kampung Arab Al-Munawir Palembang coffee festival, Sunday.  Meanwhile, according to the owner of the Cofeephile Coffee Shop, located on Jalan Demang Lebar Daun, Asep Imam Somanhudi (24), every year the number of coffee shops in Palembang continues to increase, so next year there is still a chance the number of either coffee bean producers or coffee shop owners will increase.  This is supported by the emergence of various festivals and events that introduce coffee to the public, he added.  The increasing trend that lured a coffee businessman from Semende, Muaraenim Regency, Sunarno (54) to start a coffee shop business in the empek-empek city. However, the business is still faced with problems of funds and location.  The coffee business in Palembang is quite promising, especially after seeing the high enthusiasm of visitors to the Kampung Arab Al-Munawir Coffee Festival for the last two days, said Sunarno.  The owner of Kedai Kopi Baik, Faadel added, the coffee business does not need huge capital, enough with six to 10 million rupiah.  `The enthusiasm of the people toward Kampung Al-Munawir Coffee Festival is quite high, which is proven by the amount of visitors that came exceeding the expectation of the organizers,` said the head of the organizing committee, Robi Sunata.  He explained, the coffee festival involved 16 businessmen and coffee shop owners in the city of Palembang, Pagaralam, Empat Lawang and Muaraenim - the best coffee producing region in South Sumatra.  Kampung Al-Munawir became the destination of the coffee festival because in the Dutch colonial period, the area had already concocted coffee with unique mixed herbs.  After the Independence Day, the coffee produced by Kampung Al-Munawir became known with various brands, such as ABK and Sendok Emas, said Muhammad bin Abdul Kadir (58), one of the traditional leaders and sixth generation in the village.

RNI Targets 78,000 Hectares of Sugarcane Plantation. RNI's President Director Didiek Prasetyo said amid the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the Utilization of Forest Areas for Sugarcane Farming in Jakarta, Wednesday (26/10), `The increase in the sugar plantation area is in line with the 2019 self-sufficiency sugar target program with a production target of about three million tons.` Three state-owned companies synergized to increase their sugar production, namely RNI, PTPN III, and Perum Perhutani.According to Didik, currently RNI has seven sugar factories with 55,000 hectares of sugarcane plantation, including of right to cultivate and community cane.In the collaboration, RNI will plant sugarcane on 20,000 hectares of land provided by Perhutani in KPH Indramayu, KPH Majalengka, and KPH Semarang.He said the scope of the collaboration includes the provision of forest land for the sugarcane farming with the agroforestry model starting from the management of seeds, product shipment, production increase, and sugarcane productivity.Furthermore, the empowerment of the community around the forest through sugarcane farming, provision of sugarcane farming experts, and provision and funding of the working capital for the collaboration on sugarcane farming with syndicated credit.Meanwhile, Perhutani's President Director Denaldy M Mauna said in the future with the agroforestry model Perhutani will optimize the combination of forest and food plants, including sugarcane, forest trees and cattle (silvopasture), or with fish (silvofishery).`With the 2.4 million hectares of forest land, in the future we will focus more on the agroforestry model while still following the rules of sustainable forest management. Currently, we are implementing a logging system with a 1:9 composition, meaning that for every hectare logged we replant nine times to maintain the sustainability of forest resources,` Denaldy said. Oil prices had been under pressure for the previous three sessions after Iraqi oil minister Jabar Ali al-Luaibi said on Sunday (Oct. 23) that his country, OPEC's second-largest producer, wants to be exempted from output cuts as it needs more money to fight the Islamic State militant group.Crude prices were lifted on Thursday after energy ministers from Saudi Arabia and its Gulf allies said their partner Russia this week offered to reduce its oil output by as much as four percent, according to media reports.OPEC last month agreed to reduce output to 32.5 million barrels per day (bpd) from the current level of 33.24 million bpd to prop up the market. The group is due to agree on concrete output levels for each country at its formal meeting in Vienna in November.Oil prices also found support after government data showed that U.S. crude inventories unexpectedly declined last week.The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in its weekly report on Wednesday (Oct. 26) that U.S. crude oil inventories fell by 600,000 barrels last week, against market consensus for an increase of 1.7 million barrels.U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude for December delivery increased 54 cents to settle at US$49.72 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.Meanwhile, Brent North Sea crude, the global benchmark, for December delivery, also rose 54 cents to close at US$50.47 a barrel on the ICE Futures Europe exchange in London, Xinhua reported. It marks the largest U.S. IPO by a Chinese company since e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd raised about $21.8 billion in 2014. Most of the proceeds from the IPO will be used to buy more land, facilities, equipment and trucks, the prospectus said. Founded in 2002, ZTO has seen the number of parcels it delivers jump to 2.94 billion in 2015 from 279 million in 2011, the prospectus said. The courier firm made 4.2 billion yuan (US$619 million) in revenue in the first half of 2016, a 70.8 percent year-on-year increase, with a profit margin of 24.9 percent. China's express delivery sector has been growing rapidly on the back of a booming e-commerce market, with players tapping public markets to fund their expansion in the fiercely competitive industry. I only have one desire, namely, I want this Kalteng to be wealthy and the community to be prosperous,` he said. Sugianto also promised to complete all of the problems of permits of the palm oil plantation that exists in Kalteng. `We will escort and coordinate the problem of the palm oil plantation permits up to the central government, because I definitely do not want there to be any more problems in this Kalteng,` he said. Meanwhile, the Vice-Chairman of DPR RI, Daniel Johan, said, all plantation and mining activities have to run according to the regulations and laws that apply. The operation of the company also has to be in accordance with the Environmental Impact Analysis (Amdal) so that it does not cause a natural disaster. `What is clear is that the natural wealth in Kalteng must be able to increase the social welfare, so that it does not cause social problems and it can encourage social justice for the people. The production of granulated sugar by PTPN X is estimated to decrease. `Currently, sugar production is at 310 thousand tons, which is estimated to have decreased by around 10 percent from last year's amount of 460 thousand tons,` said PTPN X Operations Director Tarsisius Sutaryanto in an interview in Kediri, East Java, on Wednesday. Tarsisius, who was interviewed during the inauguration of the Management of the PTPN X APTRI Branch Office, at the Insumo Hotel in Kediri, said that the climate had greatly affected the production of sugar cane by farmers.  `The climate has been extraordinary, especially the rain since the beginning of the harvest which has not stopped. This is called La Nina,` he said.  Meanwhile, the Head of the APTRI Central Management Board (DPP), Abdul Wachid, added that this year's harvest had been accompanied by much higher costs for farmers, starting from planting.  The high costs were not necessarily followed by an optimal yield. The current yield produced from the sugar cane was around 6.5 percent to 7 percent. On the other hand, a result higher than 7 percent was very difficult at the moment. He said that sugar production would likely decline this year. Sugar production in Indonesia reached 2.6 million tons in 2015, but currently only around 2.3 million tons was produced, which was not enough to fulfill domestic consumption. `If there had been no storm this year (La Nina storm), the production could have reached 2.7 million tons (granulated sugar),` he said. The APTRI was aware that the demand for granulated sugar was expected to be insufficient, but he requested that the government not rush into importing sugar. Instead, he requested that the government was wiser in making this policy.  Many companies had been granted permission to import sugar with values starting from 200 thousand tons to even 650 thousand tons. Ironically, the import was not in the form of white sugar, but rather in the form of refined sugar, which would then be processed into refined sugar.  The APTRI said that the price of sugar was still standard at around Rp11 thousand to Rp12 thousand per kilogram. With this price, the farmers could still make a profit, but if it was below this price, the farmers would start to lose. `We hope that the import will be stopped. The parties who are granted permission to import should be reconsidered. Furthermore, we also request a trade balance, the necessary sugar balance, so that we can help determine whether import is allowed or not. Do not allow imports to continue because it will harm production in 2017,` explained Abdul.
